Las Super Chevalas

Chevalas

I'm so tired. Actually, I'm a tad hungover, too. Sure all the kids are in school I should have tons of time to get stuff done, but I'm still trying to catch up from the wedding. I'm in this serious afternoon nightmare that is my kids' life. One activity each and I'm still constantly in the car. Aggh! It was 100 degrees here in sunny San Jose yesterday and I cleaned my kitchen all sparkly in the morning, so by afternoon, in my non air conditioned abode (only hot 10 days in the summer in San Jo, don't need it. At least that's what the real estate agents tell you anyway) I was not about to cook. I was tired and hot and hot and tired and was craving a super chevalas. Not just a chevalas, the super version. What's the difference? Tequila! I don't even really like tequila, but if you've ever had one of these drinks, you would, too! They are quite refreshing and I was in the mood to kill the week, so Mark chilled his scooners and Doug bought the tequilia and Modelo Negro and I made 7 layer dip! So eighties of me, eh? I could not in good conscience take a photo of it and write out the recipe as it is so lame, but that was our dinner!

Have you ever heard of a super chevalas? I don't know if it's a California thing or a Mexico thing, but it's supposed to be a secret recipe at Tlaquepaque, the mexican restaurant we get them at. We've gotten pretty close with this one. Maybe too close.

Super Chevalas

The chill factor is what makes these awesomely refreshing. Make sure everything is really cold first. The lemon juice flatens out a little of the beer carbonation, making them go down so smooth!

4 ice cold scooners or mugs, rimmed with salt
4 ice cold Modelo Negro
3 shots Jose Cuervo Tequilia
ice cold juice of 2 lemons
Lime wedge

In a pitcher, mix the beer, tequilia and lemon juice. Rim the scooner with salt. Pour in and squeeze a wedge of lime.

Shut up about your lovely hot weather! We are freezing our butts off and definately not drinking lovely icy drinks. Jealous, pea green!

Hungover, eh? :) I seriously want one of those right now.

I can relate, I hate really hot weather. Uhm... but I see you've found a cure ;) and it looks soooo refreshing!

Found your post after a desperate Google search. The Super Chevalas craving has struck but with a newborn at home it will be a while before I can make it out to Tlaquepaque. Thanks for posting the recipe!
