2 Weeks From Today

It's official. My pal Kelly and I are dropping out of site for 10 days and roadtripping across America. I have 3 kids, a husband and a dog and I'm leaving them all home for what I hope to be a slightly psychotic, neurotic, hectic, exhausting, laughable trip from California to New York City. My husband and Kelly's husband think we'll get as far as Napa, get in a fight (we are both short blonds but polar opposites), start drinking really good wine, check into a spa and stay there for 10 days. A contraire! I'm slightly freaked out about being in a car that long, but neeeeedddd a break. I don't know one single mom or woman out there who wouldn't like to take a break from their life and be the person they were, if only for 10 days before being a wife and mom. (NOT THAT I WOULD CHANGE THAT FOR ONE SECOND!)

So off we go. As we plan I hear feedback and I'm curious from my friends and readers....Where would you stop if you were me? We're looking for cool bits of Americana! We're looking for chic shops in NY. And rustic-ee places to eat lunch in the south. And guess what? The AAA roadmaps don't understand chic or artsy fartsy or eclectic. Or modern for that matter. Kel loves modern and all the books are saying contemporary and it's killin' her.

So here is your chance to comment...best places to stay in your neck of the woods. We can still change course! Best places to eat. Anyone in the south? Best grits? Anyone. Need your help, that's what will make this trip great!!!

I bet Diana Ross didn't realize she ended her sentence in a preposition. These are the things that cross my mind as I'm writing this stuff! At least the theme song to Mahogony was good.

Two months ago I started this blog in preparation for an upcoming roadtrip. My pal Kelly and I are packing up our suitcases and our shoe-t-cases and heading across country. It all started with a successful road trip to Vegas last October. We were in the back seat together for 6 hours. And, the biggest surprise of all, we didn't kill each other. Of course, we were in the back while our husbands were driving watching episodes of Chuck on my iPhone, but still, it could have been ugly! Coupled with the recent death of my mom, it seemed like a good time to step outside of my life and see some of the bits and pieces of Americana that there's no way I'll be able to see with 3 kids and a busy husband. My mom would have liked that and with any luck I'll be able to use some of my small inheritance pay for it. Of course, it's turned into more of a foodie blog, but in two months you will be able to read, day by day our misadventures! And we still haven't mapped out everything!

So, I'm seeing hits from new places around the country (and globe). If you are anywhere near route 66, please comment on the fun things to do and great places to eat where you are! We're taking off in October. Aren't we brilliant? Leave when gas is over $4.00/gallon. Maybe we could get press for that! "Two dumb chicks roadtrip"! It would be ideal to sleep at a really nice hotel every 3 nights. We have exactly 10 days to get to NY. Million Dollar Baby style, drive there fly back.
